About the Wildflower Lawns
With attention to season, much of the year is the ideal time for spreading wildflower seeds. Native species perennials have unique cultural needs. Perennials in the northeast need stratification to germinate. The seeds have a tough exterior hull that needs to freeze and thaw to crack open and start growing. Some people prefer to stall the seeds in their freezers for a couple months, then plant them outside in the warm spring weather. That works too. There are over 30 NY native Aster species! Here at the wildflower farm, 14 species are grown. The wildflower lawn Asters do very well in the lawn. Often you find these plants naturally growing in people’s lawns. They blend into the turf and have green foliage year-round (evergreen). A thick, lush carpet forms that’s both mow-able and step-able.
Low Maintenance Butterfly Habitat Lawn!
Can you imagine a low maintenance, vibrant green that’s free from chemicals and irrigation? Additionally, the landscape becomes instant, easy butterfly habitat. Straightaway, butterfly species like the Pearl Crescent and Silver Checkerspot are supported in a wildflower lawn.
