Native flowers of New York and perennials are hardy, adaptable, and a haven for wildlife

Because native flowers of New York and perennials (also shrubs, trees and grasses) have made their home in the NYS area, they’re already well-acclimated to our growing conditions and require less care than nursery-bred and hybrid plants. Our plants are ideal for local habitat restoration and re-vegetation projects.  We use local seed sources to produce plants that are genetically adapted to our local climate.  This means that they don’t struggle as much to survive swings in temperature, periods of less rain or more rain, and bouts of humidity than cultivated ornamental flowers will. Further, the mutually beneficial relationships that natives have in place with pollinators and other wildlife make them the best choices for gardeners looking to support bees, birds, and butterflies.

The best hope of a good future for our environment is the rewilding of suburban properties. Planting in a post-wild world has new responsibilities. The eco-landscaping or habitat gardens don’t have to be “wild” per se. Yet if folks are willing to find some eco-agency in their land ethic and make responsible choices in their property’s care, especially re: going chemical free and using native species, the future for our environment is bright.
