Boltonia asteroides belongs to a genus of plants in the sunflower family native primarily to North America. Also known as False Aster, Boltonia is an easy to grow perennial flowering plant. Purchasing an ounce of this seed can result in growing over a hundred plants.
Boltonia is not a good style fit for every garden setting. For example, this plant is much too tall and wild for a formal garden motif. It spreads from seed assertively and can colonize a garden area. This makes it a wonderful choice for home school wildflower garden projects. Boltonia’s high germination rate will never disappoint your kids! And it’s a great choice for habitat restoration projects and meadow construction. Boltonia asteroides feeds pollinators and songbirds successfully. Wherever you plant it, just give it some space. It will spread. There’s room in the natural landscape for plants with different growth habits. In fact, it’s necessary given the succession phase of different land parcels. One exciting antidote to the problem of invasive species plants is native species with an assertive growth habit. Naturalistic planting theory can solve multiple problems. Beauty is a cultural need. And natural solutions to climate challenges exist.
