$25.00

Heart Leaf Aster is also known as Bluewood Aster. It’s one of the single most versatile native plants there is. Aster cordifolium is long considered to be an Aster species relegated to the shaded areas of the garden, meadow and woodlands. But secretly, Bluewood Aster thrives in sun. It can grow in any soil condition, even loves juglone soil.

We have a “rewilded” property edge here at the wildflower farm. The year we moved in, the entire yard was wall to wall lawn. As we’ve regenerated the entire space back to an operational farm, the rewilding project has been extra fun. Our maintenance vibe is extremely light maintenance here, essentially just removing any invasive species in the spring. Beyond that we let grow whatever wants to. Although we have intentionally spread some of our wildflower seeds in the area, most of what grows is from the land’s own seed bank. Heart Leaf Aster is sheer delight in this wild garden. The pollinator and butterfly activity is raucous. All day long during peak Aster bloom season, the whole area is ablaze with noise, motion, joy.
