Late Spring and Early Summer Indoor Gardening Joy.

This week, as late spring rapidly turns to early summer, I’m witnessing a profusion of gorgeous Passiflora blooms. Several types of Passionflowers- Maypop is shown above and Star of Clevedon below. The Lake George region is a great place to have an indoor garden: winters are so long, dark and cold up here. It’s really something to have some color and life to brighten the interior. This time of year, when it’s always warm, it is still extraordinarily special to wake up to flowers before even stepping outside, over morning coffee say.

Some tropical plants don’t do well here (everyone either has tried growing Orchids or knows someone who has.) But many species of Passionflowers do fine in indoor gardens. In fact, Maypops are hardy to zone 4, and so can even be planted in outdoor gardens in Lake George.
