Today while walking in the forest near my house, I saw an indicator that spring is about to turn to summer: lots of Ladyslipper Orchids in full bloom. These endangered wildflowers find a secret pocket to thrive in dappled sunlit spots in the Connected Pine Grove.
These orchids are astonishing: but don’t touch please. If the serious habitat gardener in Lake George or Saratoga wanted to integrate Ladyslipper Orchids into their home garden, some mailorder native plants nurseries can provide access. Re-establishment can be tricky, possibly worth the fuss for such beauty and to create safe habitat for a protected species.
